Overview
Action College, in partnership with RYEO, launched a hands-on Mechanics Training Program for out-of-school youth across multiple branches: KICUKIRO, REMERA, and MUSANZE. The program focused on vehicle diagnostics, engine repairs, electrical systems, and road safety awareness.
Approach
We created on-site auto-labs with real vehicle parts, partnered with local garages for internship placements, and delivered both theoretical and practical modules. Professional mechanics served as instructors, combining textbook learning with real repair sessions.
Challenges
Some participants had low literacy levels, so we incorporated visual learning and translated technical materials into Kinyarwanda. Tool shortages were also resolved through donations from local garages.
Result
87% of graduates gained employment within 6 weeks. Some opened their own roadside service points. Community impact grew as local transport owners now seek Action College-trained mechanics.
